The paper explains how Modern Virtual Reality technology can contribute in the conceptual design stage of Big Science projects to create and verify component designs and maintenance procedures. Cheaper and faster than physical mock-ups, the immersive and intuitive nature of VR allows to assess complex maintenance scenarios with first hand experience and little training, bringing out critical details on lighting, storage, tool logistics.
